This high pressure pump is used for your direct-injected TFSI vehicle. They will usually fail when the camshaft follower wears through and destroys the pump shaft or they can't put out the proper pressure after it has aged. When replacing the pump, make sure to also replace the cam follower as this is most likely worn or destroyed as well.
